California Claims PSAC Women's Tennis Title

BLOOMSBURG--The California (PA) Vulcans won their second straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference women's tennis championship with a 5-0 victory against Slippery Rock on Saturday.

The Vulcans cruised through doubles play losing just six total games in the three matches, then picked up two wins in singles play by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores. One of the players for California winning by that margin was Helena Van Eysendeyk who earned the MVP award for the tournament.

Cal improved to 23-2 with the win, while Slippery Rock falls to 20-3.

In the consolation match Bloomsburg beat Kutztown by a score of 5-2. Bloomsburg picked up two wins in doubles action, then won the match with victories in singles play by Alison Carney, Brittani Weeks and Andrea Malatesta.

The Huskies are now 12-6, while Kutztown goes to 7-8.
