California to battle Shepherd for NCAA II East Region Title

The NCAA II East Region’s No. 2 seed California looks to advance to the Elite Eight as it squares off against No. 5 seed Shepherd in the women's basketball East Region Championship.  California has been on a tear through its first two games of the regional tournament.  The Vulcans have defeated their opponents by an average of 14.5 points per contest.  California downed fellow PSAC member Millersville, 70-54, in the opening round with four players in double figures, led by Lindsay Johnson (19), Amber Dubyak (14), Kayla Smith (12), and Brooque Williams (13).  The next evening California beat No. 3 seed Anderson by a score of 68-55.  The Vulcans had four players in double figures once again.  Kayla Smith led the way with 23 points and a career-high six blocks.  Brooque Williams and Lindsay Johnson each posted a double-double, with Williams recording 12 points and 12 boards while Johnson totaled 14 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.  Shaquetta Mance posted 10 points to round out California’s top scorers. Shepherd boasts a 24-6 record this season, while California enters the game 26-6.  This season marks the first time that the Rams have competed in the NCAA Tournament.  Shepherd benefitted from 30 points from Katie Warehime in Saturday's 74-66 semifinal victory against Mount Olive.  In the opening round, the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champions downed conference rival West Liberty State, 65-56, behind Laura Harkins' 21 points and four blocked shots.

Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm at Indiana (Pa.)University.
