League Swimmers Set to Compete at National Championships
(March 12, 2008)

Numerous representatives from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference will close out their seasons at the NCAA Division II Swimming at Diving Championships to be held March 12-15 at the Mizzou Aquatics Center at the University of Missouri.  The event is being hosted by the Missouri University of Science and Technology.

Individual national champions will be crowned in 42 separate events - 21 each in men's and women's competitions.  In addition, the top eight finishers in each event earn distinction as All-Americans.

Last year PSAC participants combined for 35 All-America citations in 27 different events, including seven individual titles.  West Chester topped the PSAC schools by finishing fourth overall on the women's side and seventh in the men's standings.

Entering the championships, three individuals and one relay team hold Division II's top time in their respective events.  West Chester's Ben Kuntz is seeded first in the 200 fly, while teammate Matt Golebiewski is the top seed in the 200 free and takes part on the Golden Rams top-rated 800 free relay squad.  For the West Chester women, Jackie Borkowski has established the nation's top time in the 100 back.  Borkowski also holds top times in the 100 free (4th) and 50 free (5th).

The PSAC should also get a strong showing from Edinboro's Brooke Heath, the league championship meet MVP on the women's side.  Heath has put together top showings in the 200 IM (2nd), 100 breast (2nd) and 200 breast (6th).   West Chester's Max Bernardes is another multiple-event qualifier who expects to do well.  He has registered quality times in the 400 IM (4th), 1,000 free (5th) and 500 free (7th).
