East Stroudsburg 41, California 34
EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg
University quarterback Jimmy Terwilliger
set another NCAA Division II record as
the Warriors used a second half rally to
defeat California (Pa.) 41-34, Saturday
in front of a large Family Day crowd at
Eiler-Martin Stadium.
Terwilliger threw for 389 yards and four
touchdowns as the Warriors overcame a
31-21 halftime deficit to improve to
2-2.
With his four touchdown passes,
Terwilliger passed Marc Eddy of Bentley
as the NCAA Division II leader in career
touchdown passes. Terwilliger tied
Eddy’s record of 121 with a four-yard
scoring toss to Doug Ogden and broke the
record with 41-yard scoring pass to Evan
Prall. Eddy set the record from 2001-04
while he was at Bentley.
Terwilliger completed 29 of 32 passes
for 389 yards, the 24th time in his
career he has thrown for more than 300
yards. He also rushed for 50 yards on 11
carries.
Fourteen of those completions went to
Prall, who tied the school record for
receptions in a game. Prall had 186
yards and one touchdown. John Kotarsky
(vs. Mansfield in 1999) and Brett Witmer
(vs. Bloomsburg in 1997) also had 14
receptions in a contest.
California, ranked No. 25 in the latest
American Football Coaches Association
poll, jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the
first quarter and had a 24-7 advantage
midway through the second quarter.
The Warriors trailed by 10 points at
halftime, tied the game late in the
third quarter and scored the go-ahead
touchdown early in the fourth quarter.
California had the ball for 12 minutes
in the first quarter alone but had just
15 more minutes in time of possession.
The Vulcans’ Joe Ruggiero completed 17
of 24 passes for 240 yards and three
touchdowns before leaving the game with
an injury. Matt Humbert completed four
of six passes for 77 yards in the last
quarter.
Ruggiero threw an eight-yard scoring
pass to Brandon Jackson to open the
scoring. Later in the first quarter,
Tyler Lorenz kicked a 24-yard field goal
for a 10-0 advantage.
The Warriors got on the board with 12:15
left in the second quarter when
Terwilliger hit Wes Lindsay for a
six-yard scoring pass, the first scoring
reception of his career.
California went back ahead by 10 when
Ruggiero connected with Marc Huddleston
for a five-yard score with 10:08 left in
the first half. Brandon Lombardy then
rushed for a six-yard touchdown pass to
increase the lead to 24-7.

for a four-yard touchdown with four
minutes left in the half. Ruggiero
answered with a 60-yard scoring pass to
Huddleston.
ESU tailback Joe Partridge cut the
Warriors deficit to 10 when he scored on
a one-yard run with 1:23 left in the
first half.
The Warriors defense forced a
three-and-out on the opening possession
of the second half and then closed the
gap. Terwilliger completed three
straight passes and then connected with
Prall for a 41-yard touchdown to make it
31-28 on Eric Petters’ extra point.
Terwilliger is now the NCAA Division II
leader in career passing yards and
career touchdowns.
Lorenz kicked his second field goal,
connecting from 28 yards for a 34-28 Cal
lead.
ESU then rolled back down the field to
tie the game. Terwilliger hooked up with
Prall for 14 yards. Matt Brunetti rushed
for 14 more and then scored on a
seven-yard run. The PAT failed and the
game was tied at 34.
The ESU defense forced another three on
out on the ensuing possession and
marched down the field with the winning
score.
Terwilliger hit Drew Stem for a 12-yard
gain, connected with Prall for seven
yards and then rushed for 14 yards to
get the ball to the Cal 27. Partridge
rushed for three yards, Brunetti went
off tackle for five yards and then
Terwilliger hit Ogden with a 15-yard
bullet for the final points.

Edinboro 28, Cheyney 6
The Fighting Scots of Edinboro (3-1) utilized their
run game against the Wolves defense early and often,
racking up 161 yards on the ground on 21 carries on
their way to a 28-6 win.
Sophomore Ulysee “Spud” Davis led all rushers with
108 yards on 20 carries, adding a touchdown along
the way. After going up 14-0 in the second quarter
over the Wolves (0-4), the Scots unleashed their
passing game. Quarterback Trevor Harris threw for
197 yards on an almost perfect 14 of 16 passes and
three scores.
The Wolves, refusing to lay down for the defending
2005 Co-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West
champions, scored with seconds left on the clock
before the end of the first half.
Quarterback Derrick Murry (17-35-2) connected with
receiver Dominique Curry for a late score in the
second quarter. Murry connected with Curry on 10
passes for 130 of his 174 yards. Freshman
quarterback Ronald Thompson (2 of 7 passing) threw
two interceptions late in the game.
Middle linebacker Ben Stroup led a stingy Scots
defense with two interceptions, three pass
break-ups, one tackle for a loss (for a loss of 10
yards) and seven tackles (three solo). Taurean
Valentine (three tackles) and Billy Dick (one
tackle) also snatched an interception a piece.
The hungry Wolves defensive line chased after
Harris, sacking him twice, led by defensive end
Eddie Dordies (four solo tackles) who also had three
tackles for a loss. Freshman David Williams also
added a sack for the Wolves.
The Scots play host to Indiana University (Pa.) on
Sept. 30 with a 1 p.m. kick-off while the Wolves
will travel to cross town foes, West Chester
University (Pa.) for a 2 p.m. kick-off.
Millersville 17,
IUP 14
Millersville, Pa. – Brad Lantz rushed for 91 yards,
including a key fourth down conversion with two
minutes remaining in the game, and the Millersville
defense forced four turnovers as the Marauders
defeated IUP, 17-14, at Biemesderfer Stadium.
Millersville won its second straight to even its
record at 2-2 on the season. IUP became the last
PSAC team to lose a game this year, falling to 2-1.
Doug Ruhl, a transfer from IUP, kicked a 32-yard
field goal with 5:08 remaining in the game to cap an
88-yard drive that provided the winning margin for
Millersville. IUP failed on a fake punt attempt
from its own 25 on its next possession, and the
Marauders ran out the clock, with Lantz converting a
fourth and two at the IUP 17 at the 2:00 mark.
Darnell Johnson added 52 rushing yards for
Millersville while Dan Csencsitz completed 9 of 20
passes for 114 yards, with 41 of those yards coming
on a touchdown pass to Andrew Tischbein that gave
Millersville a 14-7 lead just before the end of the
first half.
Chris Morgan, the second leading rusher in the
nation, carried 19 times for 141 yards and a
touchdown and became the third player in IUP history
with 3,000 rushing yards, finishing the game with
3,066. Morgan was averaging 213.0 yards per game
entering the contest. Kevin Weidl hit on 12 of 22
passes for 125 yards and a score but was intercepted
twice, with one going for a touchdown, and fumbled
to end two other drives.
IUP’s offense was clicking on its first drive,
driving 94 yards on 11 plays and ending on a
four-yard touchdown pass from Weidl to Dan Pickens.
Weidl was 6 of 7 for 75 yards on the drive. IUP was
quickly in position to add to its lead when Terrence
Jackson picked off a Csencsitz pass at the
Millersville 37.
But the Marauders turned in their first big
defensive play of the night when Brandon Shelton
stepped in front of a Weidl pass and brought the
interception back 74 yards for a touchdown that tied
the game at 7-7 with 4:52 left in the first
quarter. Marcus Banks intercepted Weidl on the
second play of the next IUP drive, but Millersville
was unable to capitalize.
IUP had its next chance to take the lead when
Carliss Jeter blocked a Derek Leslie punt, and Cosie
Spigelmeyer recovered at the Millersville 13. But
Nick Wallace missed a 36-yard field goal attempt.
The Marauders responded with their only touchdown
drive of the game, taking advantage of a pass
interference call to lead to the Csencsitz to
Tischbein score.
IUP wasted little time tying the game at the outset
of the third quarter, with Morgan going in from 49
yards out on the fourth play of the period. After a
series of punts, the Marauders had a chance to take
the lead, driving from their 27 to the IUP nine.
But Ruhl missed a 26-yard field goal attempt to keep
the game even.
Given new life, IUP drove from its 20 and reached
the Millersville seven before Weidl fumbled the
snap, and Millersville recovered. The Marauders
then embarked on the drive that gave them their
second straight win over IUP and fourth in the past
eight years.
IUP stays on the road next Saturday for a 1 p.m.
game at Edinboro in the PSAC West opener for both
teams. Millersville begins PSAC East play with a
1:05 contest at Kutztown.

Shippensburg 0
WEST CHESTER, PA – The West Chester
University defense limited Shippensburg
University to 29 rushing yards and 189 yards
of total offense in a 24-0 shutout Saturday
night in West Chester, PA. The victory
evens WCU’s record at 2-2 while Shippensburg
drops to 2-2. It marked the first time WCU
has beaten Shippensburg at home since 1998.
The Red Raider offense was hounded by West
Chester’s defense all night long. The Golden
Rams produced six sacks for -33 yards and a
total of seven tackles for losses of -50
yards. The WCU defense was led by
freshman DE Vladimir Garbovsky
(Ridley/Ridley) who recorded four total
tackles, including two sacks for -12 yards
and a forced fumble. Senior OLB Chris Tagye
(Exton/Downingtown) led the team in hits
with nine (5 tackles, 4 assists) and
sophomore OLB T.J. Cascio (St.
David’s/Malvern Prep) produced seven
unassisted tackles. Cascio had a five-yard
sack and Tagye drilled Shippensburg’s
quarterback for a 17-yard loss.
Junior OLB Jimmy Lewis (Wilmington,
DE/Concord) intercepted a pass, posted a
sack, and turned in a pass hurry. He
returned his interception 22 yards and
finished up with six total hits. Lewis
was one of four Golden Rams to pick off
passes on Saturday night. Junior DB Brett
Paterson (King of Prussia/Upper Merion),
red-shirt freshman DB Corey Rhood
(Downingtown/Downingtown West) and junior LB
Joe Cefalo (Hanover/Hanover) each had picks,
while sophomore DB Tyler Downes (Laurel,
DE/Delmar) recovered a fumble.
Offensively, the Golden Rams did enough to
get the job done. Junior QB Bill Zwaan
(Malvern/Great Valley) was 7 for 17 with 147
yards and one touchdown throw, while senior
QB Matt Burdalski (Marlton, NJ/Holy Cross)
chucked a 45-yard touchdown pass to junior
TB Dean Millard (Birdsboro/Wilson).
Burdalski completed 2 of 4 passes for 56
yards and the score.
WCU scored first when senior WR Eric
Ruffenach (Drexel Hill/Upper Darby) inhaled
a 45-yard bomb from Zwaan with 1:28 to go in
the first quarter. Ruffenach caught three
passes for 48 yards and led the team in
rushing with 36 yards on one end-around
carry.
The lead doubled to 14-0 when junior TB
Osagie Osunde (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia)
barreled into the end zone from three yards
away. The Shippensburg defense keyed on
Osunde all night long, limiting him to 18
yards on 17 carries, but it left gaps open
for the other backs.
Millard ran the ball just three times but
picked up 16 yards and RB Pat McDermott
(Bryn Mawr/Harriton) rushed for 17 yards on
three attempts.
Sophomore WR Michael Washington
(Philadelphia/Frankford) was also the focus
of Shippensburg’s attention, but the
standout wideout caught three passes for 83
yards. Junior WR Cody Clark (Eastampton,
NJ/Holy Cross) collected a 19-yard
reception.
The lead went to 21-0 on the Burdalski throw
to Millard, while sophomore kicker Alex
Walsh (Downingtown/Downingtown East) boomed
a 33-yard field goal as time expired in the
first half.
The Golden Rams have now held their
opponents without a touchdown in the second
half for the third straight week and have
shut out the opposition in six straight
quarters. David Richards led the Red
Raiders with 117 all-purpose, while Jaron
Nalwak posted six tackles, including four
tackles for loss (-13 yards) and a sack for
–7 yards. West Chester held
Shippensburg to its lowest rushing total
since 1996 when the Red Raiders had 31 vs.
Slippery Rock.
