West Chester won the toss and elected to receive. The Warriors defense forced a punt but it was fumbled and West Chester recovered at the 22. Five plays later, Zwaan found Washington in the corner of the end zone for a six-yard score. Alex Walsh kicked the first of his seven extra points.

The Golden Rams scored their second touchdown late in the first quarter when Zwaan found Washington for a 20-yard touchdown following an ESU punt.

West Chester then used nine plays to go 67 yards after forcing a turnover on downs. Brandon Hargrose rushed for a 15-yard scoring run to cap the drive.

ESU turned it over on downs on their next possession and Dean Millard took advantage with a 17-yard scoring run and a 28-0 lead.

The Warriors fumbled the ensuing kickoff and the Golden Rams made it a 35-0 lead when Zwaan found Cody Clark for a 19-yard touchdown.

The Warriors got on the board on their next possession when Terwilliger hit Wes Lindsay for a 33-yard touchdown. Eric Petters’ kicked the PAT and West Chester led 35-7 at halftime.

West Chester’s final score came on the next possession when Zwaan and Washington connected from 29 yards out.

Terwilliger closed the scoring when he hit Sam Shuman for an 11-yard touchdown.

The Warriors will play at PSAC East-leading Bloomsburg Saturday at 1:30 p.m. while the Golden Rams host Mansfield.

IUP 42, Mansfield 6

Chris Morgan rushed for 122 yards and three touchdowns and the defense scored twice on fumble returns as IUP defeated Mansfield, 42-6, in the first meeting between the two schools in 55 years.

IUP won its fifth in a row to improve to 7-1 on the season while Mansfield dropped to 0-8.  IUP began the week ranked eighth in the Northeast Region and 20th in the American Football Coaches Association national poll.  IUP had not played Mansfield since a 7-0 victory during the 1951 campaign.

Morgan went over the 1,000-yard mark for the second straight year, finishing the game with 1,112.  He has 3,611 yards in his career, just 13 yards shy of passing Aamir Dew for second in the all-time IUP list.

He had scoring runs of 8, 49 and 7 yards against Mansfield to give him 12 rushing touchdowns on the year and 32 in his career, tied for third in IUP history and one behind Steve Girting for second.

Mike Reid and Akwasi Owusu-Ansah scored on fumble returns, and Kareem Dutrieuille added a two-yard touchdown run as IUP recorded its highest point total since a 52-10 win over Lock Haven in the eighth game of the 2004 season.

Rodney Davis led Mansfield with 162 yards on the ground, and his 80-yard gallop with 13:34 left in the second quarter provided the only points of the game for the Mountaineers and momentarily cut the deficit to 14-6.  The two teams combined to attempt only 15 passes, completing seven for 59 yards.

Kevin Weidl was 4 of 9 for 53 yards for IUP.  Xavier Thomas, a converted wide receiver, was 3 of 6 for six yards for Mansfield.

Chad Swearinger led IUP with 12 tackles while James Carson had nine stops, including five behind the line of scrimmage.  Rob Plowman had a sack, his ninth of the season, to force a Thomas fumble which Reid scooped up and returned 40 yards for a score to give IUP a 7-0 lead just 4:45 into the game.

On Mansfield’s next possession, punter Brandon Fields mishandled a snap, and IUP took over at the Mountaineer 16.  Two eight-yard runs by Morgan covered the distance, and IUP was up 14-0 with 6:10 left in the first quarter.

Mansfield was held to minus six yards in the first quarter but stunned IUP on the third play of the second stanza when Davis went 80 yards for a score.  The extra point was blocked, but the Mountaineers were within eight.  It was the first 100-yard game this season against an IUP rush defense that was ranked ninth in Division II with an average of just 69.6 entering the game.

The momentum of the Davis touchdown was short lived, however, as Morgan scored on a 49-yard run on the fourth play of the ensuing IUP possession to make it 21-6.  IUP recovered a fumble at the Mansfield 43, and took 10 plays to find the end zone again, with Dutrieuille scoring with 41 seconds left in the second quarter for a 28-6 halftime lead.

Morgan scored on a seven-yard run with 10:04 left in the third quarter to make it 35-6, and Owusu-Ansah took a lateral from Donta Green after a fumble by Mansfield’s C.J. Okogeri and went 45 yards to the end zone to produce the final margin of victory with 11:57 remaining in the game.

IUP plays again in five days when it hosts Slippery Rock in a Thursday night game at Miller Stadium that kicks off at 7 p.m.  That game will be televised live nationally by CSTV and regionally by Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh.  Mansfield is at West Chester next Saturday at 1 p.m.

Lock Haven 14, Clarion 7

(LOCK HAVEN, PA): Lock Haven jumped out to a 14-0 lead, then held on to defeat Clarion in a PSAC-West game today 14-7.

Held at Lock Haven’s Hubert Jack Stadium, Clarion dropped to 1-8 overall and 0-4 in the PSAC-West, while Lock Haven upped their mark to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in the PSAC-West.

Clarion outgained Lock Haven 281-186 and had 17 first downs to Lock Haven’s 10, but turnovers hurt the Golden Eagles who lost three fumbles and an interception. Clarion also featured a fine performance from tailback Eddie Emanuel, who ran 23 times for 122 yards.

A second quarter Clarion turnover set the table for Lock Haven. The Golden Eagles were set to field a punt at their own 40, but a short punt hit Ryan Hart on the bounce and Lock Haven’s Jason Eby recovered at the Golden Eagle 40.

The Bald Eagles went 40 yards in 6 plays and took a 7-0 lead when Chris Hawkins found paydirt on a 20-yard run with 2:52 to go before intermission.

Lock Haven scored on its first possession of the second half when qb Ilio DiPaolo tossed a 44-yard td pass to Rafael Smith, who caught the ball at the 1 and fell into the endzone. The PAT was good and LH led 14-0 with 13:00 left in the third quarter.

Clarion took its next drive from the Clarion 11 to the LH 35, but turned the ball over on downs.

After losing a fumble at its own 45 early in the fourth quarter, Clarion got the pigskin back with 8:35 to go in the game and drove 70-yards in 6 plays to score. The td pass came on a 32-yard strike from qb Tyler Huether (Penn Trafford) to wideout Pierre Odom, who made a diving grab in the endzone. The PAT by Kyle Snoke was good and Clarion cut the lead to 14-7 with 6:52 remaining in the game.

After the Clarion defense held, the Golden Eagles fumbled the punt and Lock Haven recovered at the Clarion 28. Again the defense held, but Lock Haven punted the Golden Eagles down to the 9 yard line with 3:26 remaining.

Clarion got two first downs, but the drive stalled at the Clarion 34 and when the Golden Eagles turned the ball over on downs, Lock Haven ran out the clock.

Clarion qb Tyler Huther completed 10 of 26 passes for 137 yards and 1 td. Emanuel ran for 122 yards, plus caught 1 pass for 5 yards, and Pierre Odom grabbed 5 aerials for 75 yards and 1 td.

Lock Haven saw Chris Hawkins run for 59 yards and 1 td on 19 carries, while qb Ilio DiPaola completed 7 of 17 for 115 yards and 1 td.

Kutztown 28, Cheyney 6

CHEYNEY, PA – A Joe Strauss 54-yard touchdown run and Kyle Spotts’ two touchdowns runs lifted Kutztown over Cheyney, 28-6, Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division contest.

The two teams faced off in gusting wind and a muddy field from the soaking rain the night before, making for difficult playing conditions for both teams.

Kutztown opened the game with an on-side kick attempt that set Cheyney up with a short field at the Kutztown 47.  After looking like the Wolves were going to go three-and out, the Golden Bears were penalized for roughing the kicker.  Cheyney took advantage and scored when Ronald Thompson threw to Ray Feamster for a four yard touchdown.  The PAT kick failed but Cheyney took a 6-0 lead.

Kutztown answered on its first possession when Strauss ran for a 54 yard touchdown to tie the score.  Steve Sandberg’s PAT was good and the Golden Bears took the lead.

In the second quarter, Mark Irwin picked off Thompson to set up the second touchdown.  It only took one play as McFadden rushed for two yards for the score.

Kutztown opened the second half with an 11 play, 53 yard drive.  This set up Spotts’ first TD run from the one.   Kutztown’s final score came in the fourth quarter on a 10 play, 68 yard drive.  It was third-and-goal as Spotts’ pushed in for his second touchdown of the afternoon.  This capped the scoring for the game.

Strauss ran for 109 yards on nine carries and a touchdown.  Cory McFadden ran for 71 yards on 22 carries and a touchdown.  Kyle Spotts completed 12-of-23 pass attempts for a total of 158 yards.  He also ran for two touchdowns.

Brett Harbach caught four passes for a total of 55 yards.  Jason Henley had three catches for 54 yards and Elfren Quiles had 28 yards on three catches.  Scott Smith led the defense with seven tackles, one for a loss of 4 yards.  Sam McKeller had six hits and Dan Chominski had five tackles.

Ronald Thompson completed 8-of-25 pass attempts.  Donald King ran for 28 yards on 11 carries.  Dominique Curry caught five passes for 60 yards.

Kutztown improves to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in the PSAC East. Cheyney falls to 1-8, 1-3 PSAC East.  Kutztown will travel to Lock Haven for an interdivision match-up next weekend.  Cheyney will travel to Millersville.

California 35, Shippensburg 20

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Sophomore Brandon Lombardy and senior Nate Forse each had two touchdowns and combined for 338 yards of total offense as No. 25-ranked California (Pa.) won its fifth-straight game while handing Shippensburg its third consecutive home loss with a 35-20 victory at Seth Grove Stadium on Saturday.

Lombardy ran for 178 yards on 40 carries, both career-highs, while Forse hauled in four receptions for 140 yards, 118 of which came on 63 and 53-yard touchdown passes. The Vulcans (7-2, 4-0 PSAC West) amassed 427 yards in total offense, an average of 6.5 yards per play, while limiting the Red Raiders to 244, including just 80 yards rushing.

Despite the significant statistical advantage for California (Pa.), Shippensburg (4-5, 2-2 PSAC West) remained in the game early, trailing by just one point at halftime, 14-13. However, big plays and an opportunistic defense proved to be difference for the Vulcans.

On the first possession of the second half, Shippensburg junior Gabe Maiocco (Media/Marple Newtown) had his pass intercepted deep in his own territory by Gary Butler who returned it for 28 yards for a California (Pa.) touchdown, extending its lead to 21-14 and starting a streak of three-straight touchdowns for the Vulcans.

After forcing the Red Raiders to punt on each of their next two possessions, California (Pa.) scored on two Lombardy touchdown runs of three and two yards, respectively, increasing its margin to 22 points, 35-13 with 8:35 left in the fourth quarter.

Saturday's game was eerily similar to last season's meeting in which the Vulcans snapped a 14-game losing streak to Shippensburg with a 41-13 road victory on Homecoming for the Red Raiders. With California (Pa.) leading 14-10 at halftime a year ago, Jared Dumm intercepted a Shippensburg pass and returned it 32 yards for a touchdown before Antwjuan Cox recovered a blocked punt in the end zone to give the Vulcans a 27-10 lead early in the third quarter.

After Shippensburg took a 7-0 lead on an 18-yard touchdown reception from Maiocco to red-shirt senior Patrick Ferguson (Mount Airy, Md./Urbana), California (Pa.) responded with a 65-yard pass from junior Joe Ruggiero to Forse to tie the game.

The Red Raiders would take the lead again on a 67-yard interception return by junior James Rockymore (Sewickley/Quaker Valley), but the extra-point attempt by junior Jamie Reder (Warrenton, Va./Faquier) was blocked Butler, allowing the Vulcans to take the lead wipth 13:35 remaining in the second quarter when Ruggiero and Forse connected once again, this time from 53 yards to give California (Pa.) a 14-13 lead.

For Reder, the blocked extra point was his first miss of the season, ending a string of 37-straight without a miss or block, including 19 this season.

Maiocco, substituting for injured senior Tony Gomez (Pottsville/Pottsville) made his first start in 18 career games which includes 10 games at Kutztown where he played from 2003-04. He completed 12-of-37 passes for 164 yards, all of which were career-highs, but threw two interceptions. Red-shirt junior Aaron Dykes (West Chester/Downingtown) ran for a season-high 84 yards and his fourth rushing touchdown, a 10-yard run midway through the fourth quarter.

Meanwhile, red-shirt senior Patrick Ferguson (Mount Airy, Md./Urbana) had five catches for 84 yards, all season-highs, and his 18th career touchdown reception which moved him into a tie for fifth-place with Mike Erlandson (1996-99) on the school's career touchdowns receiving list. Ferguson has caught at least one pass in all nine games this season and in 13-straight games dating back to the final four games of the 2004 season.

Defensively, senior Frank Duffy (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) had a game-high 10 tackles for Shippensburg, one short of his career-high set at Edinboro last season, while red-shirt sophomore Jason Groller (Easton/Easton) and sophomore Reggie Farrior (Johnstown/Greater Johnstown) each posted career-highs with seven tackles.

The Red Raiders travel to Edinboro next week for its final road game of the 2006 season with kickoff from Sox Harrison Stadium set for 1:00 p.m. Last year, the Fighting Scots handed Shippensburg a 16-0 loss.

Bloomsburg 28, Millersville 16

MILLERSVILLE- Dan Latorre (Elysburg/ Southern Columbia) completed 14 of 21 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns and Christian Allen (Pottstown/ Pottstown) rushed for 72 yards and two scores to lead the Bloomsburg University football team to a 28-16 win over Millersville on Saturday afternoon. The win is the eighth straight for the Huskies.

Bloomsburg (8-1, 4-0 PSAC East) fell behind early when Millersville's Dan Csencsitz completed an 18-yard touchdown pass to Derek Fry on the Marauders first possession of the game.

However, the Huskies would respond on the very next drive when Allen scored from three yards out to tie the game at 7-7 with 10:07 remaining in the first quarter. The key play of the drive came on the Huskies first play from scrimmage when Josh Heck (West Hazleton/ Hazleton) busted a 31-yard run to Millersville's 31 yard line.

The score would remain the same until late in the second quarter when Millersville added a 22-yard field goal with 5:01 remaining in the half. The Marauders would take a 10-7 lead into the locker room.

On Bloomsburg's first possession of the second half the Huskies engineered a 13 play, 80-yard drive, capped off by a 3-yard run by Allen to take a 14-10 lead.

Later in the third quarter, the Huskies would make it 21-10 when Latorre completed a 14-yard pass to Brahin Bilal (Philadelphia/ Lincoln) to cap off a 5 play, 79-yard drive. The big play of the drive came on a 66-yard run by the Huskies Brad Nailor (Carlisle/ Carlisle).

In the fourth quarter, Millersville cut the lead to 21-16 with 7:43 remaining when Isiah Ray caught a pass from 12 yards out. Millersville attempted a two-point conversion in hopes to cut the deficit to three but failed on the attempt.

However the Huskies would put the game away on the next drive as Latorre hooked up with Bilal once again, this time from 26-yards out to make the score 28-16.

Bilal finished the day with 86 yards receiving and two scores, while Heck rushed 14 times for 86 yards. Defensively, the Huskies were led by Matt Smith (York/ Central York) and Justin Colon (Reading/ Holy Name) who each had seven tackles. Colon also added a sack in the game.
