Bloomsburg 31, Mansfield 7
MANSFIELD--Quarterback Dan Latorre
(Elysburg/Southern Columbia) threw for 153
yards and one score to lead Bloomsburg
University to a 31-7 win over Mansfield
University on Saturday. It was the seventh
straight for the Huskies.
Bloomsburg (7-1, 3-0 PSAC East) got on the
board on its first drive of the game when
Luke Kuklick (North Wales/North Penn) caught
a 44-yard pass from Latorre to put the
Huskies in front 7-0.
The Huskies made it 14-0 when freshman
Stefan Adams (West Chester/Henderson) scored
his first collegiate touchdown on a 15-yard
run on the first play of the second period.
Later in the period, Bloomsburg's Christian
Allen (Pottstown/Pottstown) ran seven yards
for a touchdown to cap a 79-yard drive to
put the Huskies up by a 21-0 score.
Bloomsburg went up by a 28-0 score just
before halftime when backup quarterback Matt
Freedman (Holland/Council Rock South)
connected with Brahin Bilal (Philadelphia/Lincon)
for 16-yard touchdown.
Mansfield, which was held to just 37 yards
of offense in the opening half, finally got
on the board in the third period when Kevon
Calhoun scored on a six-yard run to make it
28-7.
Bloomsburg capped the day's scoring when Jon
Koenig (Pine Grove/Pine Grove) made a
career-long 40-yard field goal to make the
final, 31-7.
Latorre, who played only a quarter and a
half before giving way to Freeman, finished
the day 7 of 11 for 153 yards and the one
touchdown. Josh Heck (Hazleton/Hazleton) led
the rushing attack with 77 yards on 19
carries, while Adams finished with a
career-high 62 yards and one score.
Defensively, Darnell Hayes
(Williamsport/Williamsport) and Jermaine
Booker (Philadelphia/Mastbaum) led
Bloomsburg with seven tackles each.
IUP 20, Shippensburg 16
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Shippensburg football senior
Tony Gomez (Pottsville/Pottsville) threw for a
career-high 312 yards, but the Red Raiders
committed four turnovers in dropping their
19th-straight game to Indiana (Pa.), 20-16 on
Saturday at Seth Grove Stadium on Homecoming.
Shippensburg (4-4, 2-1 PSAC West) has not beaten
Indiana (Pa.) since Oct. 15, 1988 when the Red
Raiders won 24-23 on Homecoming. The win was
also the ninth consecutive for IUP at Seth Grove
Stadium.
Chris Morgan led No. 24-ranked IUP (6-1, 4-0
PSAC West) with 106 yards rushing and one
touchdown on 24 carries. In three career games
against Shippensburg, Morgan has totaled 439
yards rushing and four touchdowns. He totaled 86
yards and one touchdown in the second half after
the Red Raider defense limited him to just 20
yards on nine carries in the first.
The Red Raiders dominated the game
statistically, holding a 424-273 advantage in
total offensive yards and a 32:13 to 27:34
margin in time of possession, but were hampered
by the four turnovers and three sacks.
Shippensburg also scored on four of five trips
inside the red zone, but three of the scores
were field goals.
Following a 32-yard field goal by junior Jamie
Reder (Warrenton, Va./Faquier), his third of the
game, with 55 seconds remaining in the third
quarter, the Red Raiders led 16-13.
Shippensburg would hold a three-point margin
until midway through the fourth quarter when
reserve running back Kareem Dutrieuille scored
on a 2-yard run to cap a five-play, 20 yard
drive that was set-up by an 18-yard interception
return by Mike Reid.
On their ensuing possession, the Red Raiders
would drive down the IUP 25-yard line, but
turned the ball over on downs when a six-yard
completion from Gomez to red-shirt senior
Patrick Ferguson (Mount Airy, Md./Urbana) came
up just short of a first down on 4th-and-7.
Shippensburg senior Walter Crump (Sharon
Hill/Academy Park) had one of his best days as a
Red Raider, leading the team in both rushing and
receiving and accounting for 206 yards in total
offense. His biggest impact came in the passing
game where he had six receptions for 165 yards
and one touchdown.
Crump is the first Shippensburg player to total
over 100 yards receiving since Patrick Ferguson
had four catches for 104 yards in a 44-0 win at
Clarion back on Oct. 30, 2004, a span of 21
games.
After going three plays and out on their first
drive, the Red Raiders drove inside the IUP
20-yard line on three-straight possessions.
However, following a 6-yard run by Crump on its
first trip to take a 7-0 lead, Shippensurg was
held to a 32-yard field goal by Reder on its
second before the Indiana (Pa.) defense forced a
fumble at the 17-yard line on the third.
Instead of a potential 21-7 lead at halftime,
the Red Raiders led by three, 10-7.
On the opening kickoff of the second half,
Shippensburg senior John Sharbaugh
(Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley) forced a
fumble by Tobias Robinson that was recovered by
senior Matt Kosciolek (Summitt Hill/Marian
Catholic) at the IUP 21-yard line.
However, the Red Raider offense was held to just
four yards in three plays and had to settle for
a 34-yard field goal by Reder.
Prior to Saturday's game, Gomez's previous
career-high in passing yards was 228 which he
set against Lock Haven at home on Oct. 9, 2004.
He is the first Shippensburg quarterback since
Chris Gicking on Oct. 4, 1999 to pass for over
300 yards in a game. Gicking threw for 316 in a
52-10 victory at home versus Edinboro.
Also, with three field goals, Reder has now made
34 in his career and is one behind Joel Yohn
(1992-95) for second place on the school list.
With 10 points this afternoon, three field goals
and one extra point, Reder now has 179 for his
career, moving him into fourth-place on the
Shippensburg career list for points scored by a
kicker, ahead of Jeff Auker (1980-83) who
totaled 177.
Shippensburg welcomes California (Pa.) to Seth
Grove Stadium next Saturday with kickoff from
Seth Grove Stadium set for 1:00 p.m. The Vulcans
are currently 5-2 overall this season, including
3-0 in the PSAC Western Division heading into
Saturday night's PSAC crossover against
Millersville at home.
East Stroudsburg 48, Cheyney 7
EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg
University football team scored 38 unanswered
second half points to beat Cheyney, 48-7,
Saturday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic
Conference Eastern Division contest at Eiler-Martin
Stadium.
The Warriors held a 10-7 advantage at
intermission but ran away with a strong second
half to improve to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in the
conference. Cheyney is now 1-7 and 1-2 in the
PSAC East.
ESU quarterback Jimmy Terwilliger completed 18
of 27 passes for 197 yards and three touchdowns
and the defense held Cheyney to minus 34 yards
rushing and 137 yards passing.
The Warriors sacked two Cheyney quarterbacks
five times, forced five fumbles and recovered
three of them.
ESU racked up 320 yards of total offense and won
its fifth straight game. Evan Prall caught five
passes for 58 yards and a score while Matt
Brunetti caught four passes for 45 yards and
rushed nine times for 63 yards.
The Warriors jumped out to early 7-0 lead when
Terwilliger hit Doug Ogden for a six-yard
touchdown pass. Eric Petters’ kick gave them a
7-0 lead with seven minutes left in the first
quarter.
Petters kicked a 29-yard field goal for a 10-0
advantage with three minutes left in the first
quarter.
Cheyney scored its lone touchdown early in the
second quarter when Dominique Curry caught a
38-yard score from Derrick Murry.
ESU forced a three-and-out on Cheyney’s first
possession of the second half and Matt Brunetti
scored on a 10-yard run.
Defensive tackle Miguel Rivera recovered a
Cheyney fumbled on the next possession and
Brunetti caught a seven-yard scoring pass from
Terwilliger for a 23-7 advantage.
End John Vetter forced and recovered a fumble on
the next possession and Joe Partridge scored on
a one-yard run to extend the lead to 36-7 late
in the third quarter.
Dave Pacchioni recovered a fumble on the kickoff
and Evan Prall caught an 11-yard scoring pass
from Terwilliger and a 42-7 lead.
Backup quarterback Joe DeLuise completed all
three of his passes on the next drive and then
scored from six yards to close the scoring.
West Chester 49, Kutztown 47
KUTZTOWN, PA – Brent Steinmetz
rushed for four touchdowns and
Maurice Garlic batted away a
Kutztown two-point conversion pass
with 39 seconds left as West Chester
escaped Kutztown with a 49-47 win on
the Golden Bears’ homecoming.
Steinmetz’ fourth touchdown came
with 1:49 left in the game. The
senior back went in from 20 yards
out as KU’s defense, which was out
of timeouts, purposefully allowed
the score to give its offense
another shot. The PAT made it
49-41.
KU took over with 1:45 left and
marched 80 yards on six plays,
capped by a 19-yard pass from Kyle
Spotts to Brett Harbach with 39
seconds left. Trailing 49-47, KU
went for two. Spotts’ pass to Jason
Henley was batted away by Garlic.
On the ensuing on-side kick, Steve
Sandberg’s boot did not travel the
required 10 yards and WCU ran out
the clock.
Kutztown had pulled to within 42-41
on a six-yard pass from Spotts to
Henley with 5:30 to play, but
Sandberg’s PAT kick sailed wide
right.
Spotts passed for a career-high 345
yards and matched his career high
with four touchdown passes, all to
different receivers. The junior QB
also ran for a score. Harbach had a
career high 11 catches for 136
yards, while Henley had seven
catches for 86 yards and Elfren
Quiles had seven grabs for 78
yards.
Steinmetz finished with 136 yards on
28 carries. Bill Zwaan was 13-of-15
for 192 yards and a TD, while backup
QB Matt Burdalski’s only completed
went for a TD. Mike Washington had
six catches for 85 yards. Cody
Clark and Darrell Caty caught TDs on
their only receptions.
The teams combined for just one punt
in the game, as 14 of the combined
19 possessions went for touchdowns.

California 41, Millersville 0
CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- Junior QB Joe Ruggiero
threw for a season-high 282 yards and three
touchdowns in the first three quarters to
lead California, Pa., ranked 10th in the
NCAA Div. II Northeast Region, to a 41-0
non-league football victory over
Millersville Saturday.
In the first meeting of the two programs
since 1988, Cal (6-2) exploded for 640 yards
total offense (315 rushing, 325 passing),
and the Vulcan defense held MU (3-5) to 75
yards total offense (64 rushing, 11
passing).
The Vulcans recorded their second shutout in
the last three weeks, the first time Cal has
had two shutout victories in the same season
since 1987 and the third time since 1970.
Cal, riding a four-game win streak and a
10-game win streak at Hepner-Bailey Field at
Adamson Stadium, has now won nine of the 12
contests vs. the Marauders.
Ruggiero completed 21-of-29 passes and hit
senior wideout Brandon Jackson for two TDs
(7 and 68 yards) and Marc Huddleston (13
yards). It was Ruggiero’s 12th 200-yard
passing game and 11th game with 20 or more
completions in 21 career outings.
Soph. RB Brandon Lombardy led Cal’s rushing
attack with 164 yards on 19 carries,
including a 14-yard TD burst to open the
scoring on Cal’s first possession of the
game. Lombardy became the fourth player in
Cal history to rush for 1,000 yards in a
season (now with 1,058 yards).
Wes Cates (three times from 1999 to 2001),
Antoine Bagwell (twice – 2004-05) and Elmo
Natali (1951) are the only other Vulcans to
rush for 1,000 yards in a season. Cates
holds the single-season record with 1,935
yards in 1999.
Brad Lantz led Millersville with 36 rushing
yards on 10 carries. QB Dan Csencsitz
completed 2-of-13 passes for 11 yards.
Cal scored on seven of its first eight
possessions. Lombardy’s 14-yard TD scamper
off right tackle capped a 65-yard drive
midway through the first quarter, and
consecutive field goals by Fr. Tyler Lorenz
(37 and 22 yards) increased Cal’s lead to
13-0 early in the second quarter.
Ruggiero drove the Vulcans 86 and 76 yards
on their next two possessions, hitting
Jackson for a seven-yard score and
Huddleston for a 13-yard TD to increase
Cal’s lead to 27-0 at halftime. Cal’s lone
miscue was a mishandled snap on a field goal
attempt in the final seconds of the first
half.
In the second half, Cal needed just 78
seconds to go 73 yards. Ruggiero hit a
streaking Jackson down the right hash marks
for a 68-yard catch-and-run, giving the
hosts a 34-0 lead. Cal’s next possession
produced a 65-yard drive, capped by a
21-yard run to paydirt by Fr. RB Steffan
Brinson.
The Vulcans, one of two undefeated teams in
the PSAC West (IUP is 4-0), close out the
regular season with three-straight PSAC West
contests. Cal will hit the road for games
at Shippensburg (10/28, 1 p.m.) and Clarion
(11/4, 1 p.m.) before hosting Indiana, Pa.,
Nov. 11 on Senior Day. The season-ender
against the Indians will be televised live
on Fox SportsNet Pittsburgh.

only touchdown. The PAT was good and Edinboro led
7-0 with 13:05 left in the second quarter.

Edinboro 30, then in the fourth quarter the Eagles
had a great opportunity to score. Freshman qb Tyler
Huether (Penn Trafford) completed 35-yard pass to
Pierrre Odom to the Boro 18. On fourth down,
Huether’s pass in the endzone was intercepted by Tom
Davidson with only 6:18 left in the game and the
eagles could get no closer.

tackle Jimmy Simmons who had 10 hits and 5 tfl’s.
Edinboro was led by Ben Stroup with 9 tackles and 3
tfl’s.
