Championship Game Recap
CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- Senior guard Greg Testa scored 12 of his
16 points in the first half, helping Millersville (26-4)
pull out to a 23-point halftime lead on the way to a 79-68
victory over Cheyney (15-15) in the 2007 PSAC Men's
Basketball Championship Game.
Testa, who also had a rebound, two assists and a steal, was
named MVP of the Championship after Millersville won its
fifth title and first since 2003. It was the third time in
the last five years MU played in the title game.
It was the first time in the 47-year history of the
tournament MU and Cheyney met in the championship game. It
was also the first time since 1990 two teams from the East
Division played in the title contest.
Junior guard Charlie Parker was the game-high scorer with 19
points while Charles Jones added 16 scores for the
Marauders, who are ranked No. 4 in the NCAA East Region and
defeated Cheyney for the third time this season. Parker also
led the Marauders with eight rebounds and five assists.
Cheyney, which boasts a PSAC-best 15 championships but was
appearing in the title game for the first time since 1986,
was led by Ed Braswell with 17 points.
Dawud Morris had 16 points, eight boards and three of the
team's five steals while Dominique Curry chipped in a
double-double with 11 scores and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Millersville, the top seed from the East, broke loose in the
final 5:32 of the first half, outscoring the Wolves 19-3 for
a 47-24 halftime lead. Parker had seven points while Testa
had six during the run. The duo combined for 26 first-half
points.
The Marauders extended the lead to 30 points (71-41) on
Daniel Joyner's three-point goal with 9:46 left in the game.
Cheyney, the third-seed from the East, battled back by
outscoring MU 27-8 down the stretch, including eight of the
last 10 points of the game.
The victory clinches an automatic bid to the NCAA Division
II Championship Tournament for Millersville. The Tournament
pairings will be announced via the internet Sunday (3/4) at
10:30 p.m.
